Community Service in a Snap

Impact Experiences at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe offer groups the opportunity to support causes that help people and the environment. On-property activities with the culinary team can be incorporated into lunch breaks, receptions and coffee breaks such as preparing regionally adapted dishes for donation to a local hunger relief organization, assembling school supplies and art materials in backpacks, preparing emergency preparedness kits for disaster relief, and designing and creating greetings cards for children. Off-site volunteer activities include working with the Sugar Pine Foundation to collect pine cones, plant trees and care for saplings to ensure reforestation of Lake Tahoe’s native sugar pine trees and surrounding woods. Another option is preserving the deep blue waters and shoreline of Lake Tahoe with the League to Save Lake Tahoe through monitoring invasive species, restoring trails and helping with water quality improvements.

Chaminade Resort & Spa Completes Room Renovations

The historic, Mission-style Chaminade Resort & Spa in Santa Cruz, located on 300 acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains and overlooking Monterey Bay, has transformed its 156 guest rooms and suites and corridors with a style reflective of Santa Cruz’s artisan community and railroad and tanning industry heritage. One of the most mindful elements added to select guest rooms during the $7.9 million renovation are meditation alcoves for guests who routinely practice meditation, mindfulness and well-being when traveling. As a result, the property has introduced a new Mindful Meetings Package that includes guided meditation at the start and end of each day’s meeting, yoga stretching breaks, guided afternoon hikes on Chaminade’s three miles of nature trails, jasmine and chamomile tea and mindful menu selections.

Being surrounded by grapevines is blissful in itself, but add a measure of mountains and the atmosphere goes nearly off-the-charts spectacular. The soils and climate of the American West have proven bountiful, resulting in a large a number of vineyards with meeting and event spaces that are surrounded by peaks or located in the foothills of Oregon, California, Idaho and Colorado.

Oink and Moo, a food truck that has operated in New Jersey since 2012, is making big news! The truck is known throughout NJ towns like Hoboken and Asbury Park, but after expanding to Philadelphia, it won a Vendy award for Rookie of the Year. Now, The Daily Meal has rated Oink and Moo the No. 2 best food truck in the United States. The food is straight up BBQ—beef brisket or pulled pork sliders, chili, tacos, quesadillas, and ribs.
