Moab Visitor’s Checklist

By M+E Staff

Moab’s immense natural surroundings, numerous trails and itineraries, rich history and broad selection of activities should keep any type of group occupied for a few hours or even several days.

  • Arches National Park’s Fiery Furnace ranger-led walk offered twice daily is regularly sold out far in advance, so alternative tours are now available from Moab Adventure Center, Windgate Adventures and NAVTEC Expeditions.

  • Canyonlands National Park has geology presentations in the Island in the Sky District twice a day at Grand View Point.

  • Dead Horse Point State Park has visitor programs ranging from coffee with a ranger and Leave No Trace Ethics for the Desert to full-moon hikes.

  • The Museum of Moab provides a glimpse of local history including cowboys, uranium mining, dinosaur finds, Native American occupants and more. Then head over to Daughter of Utah Pioneers Museum, Moab Museum of Film and Western Heritage and Lin Ottinger’s Moab Rock Shop for more educational fun.

  • Explore one of several self-guided trails to experience dinosaur fossils and track ways, rock art, movie locations and the Historic Pinhook Battle site.

  • There are numerous options for adventure such as hot air ballooning, rafting, rock climbing, jet boat touring, mule or horseback riding, biking and driving side-by-side utility vehicles on dirt trails. Guided 4×4 tours and flights over the canyons are also options.

  • Volunteer for a community, public lands, restoration cleanup or other project.

  • The Community Contra Band performs monthly and provides contra dance instruction.

  • Sample wines at Spanish Valley Vineyards and Castle Creek Winery and local beers on tap at various Moab establishments
