In 1927, Hilton Hotels founder Conrad Hilton said, "Abilene, Texas will be well prepared to handle large conventions and please the most fastidious visitor." Nearly 95 years later, Abilene has fulfilled this vision and is excited to welcome back the Hilton family of hotels in the heart of Downtown Abilene with a recently announced DoubleTree by Hilton. The new DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel will bring 17,000-square feet of meeting space, 200-rooms of lodging, full-service dining, a pool deck, rooftop bar, and other heart-warming amenities to the heart of Abilene's bustling arts and business district. Guests and convention-goers can stay within walking distance of event venues, restaurants, breweries, shops, museums, and the city's famous storybook sculpture collection. Construction is anticipated to take 18 months, with an opening date in Spring 2023.

Adding lodging to the development mix in downtown Abilene has been a longtime goal for the city. The area's renaissance started 30 years ago with the revival of vital historical landmarks, cultural venues and meeting spaces, entertainment, dining, and retail. Residential followed, and that urban lifestyle has launched Abilene into a top draw for entrepreneurial millennials.

Abilene is big on culture and affordability, and both come with a Texas-sized serving of hospitality. A meeting or event in Abilene will bring out the West in you. Discover your pioneering spirit by exploring new options to create memorable meetings. You can also rely on the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau for meeting planning, registration, tours, activities, and so much more.

Recently, I wrote about Santa Fe, New Mexico’s new Sky Railway, which made me think about all the train tie-ins for groups in the U.S. Mountain West and western Canada. Several tourist trains offer special events that groups can tag onto and allow private rental of train cars, and there are venues and museums that celebrate the railroad’s front-and-center place in the development of the West.

The slopeside Viewline Resort Snowmass has reopened in the heart of Snowmass Village after a $40 million refresh. Previously known as The Westin Snowmass, this prominent property for meetings and events was purchased in December 2020 and has relaunched with a new name, elevated interior and exterior, and enhanced culinary offerings and guest programming.

Located in the heart of the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, Hotel Drover, an award-winning Autograph Collection Hotel by Marriott, focuses on simple pleasures and genuine hospitality. Kick-off your boots and stay awhile with 200 rustic-luxe rooms and suites.
