• It's Official: America Needs a Vacation

A recent study conducted by Allianz Travel Insurance, found that more than 170 million Americans haven’t taken a vacation in the last year. That’s more than half of the population—53 percent, to be exact!

However, this is down from last year when 56 percent of respondents noted they hadn't taken a vacation in the last year.

Worse yet, 37 percent haven't been on vacation in more than two years (also down from last year). Fifteen percent of Americans haven't been on a vacation in the last there months.

“We’ve only seen the slightest increase in Americans taking a vacation this year,” says Daniel Durazo, director of communications at Allianz Global Assistance USA. "Our findings show that Americans continue to be plagued by an alarming vacation deficit."

Unfortunately, it’s not for lack of desire: Forty-one percent of those surveyed agreed that an annual vacation is important.

At Meetings + Events, we obviously love to travel and know our readers do as well. This year, our staff has traveled to Thailand, the Pacific Northwest, Costa Rica, Italy, New York City and a number of other destinations, and we’re sure you too have visited some pretty amazing places. Reach out to us on social media and share where you’ve been this past year. And, if you need any inspiration as to where you should plan your next trip, check out the Places section of our website for some great destinations!

In the soon-to-be released Spring/Summer 2022 issue of Mountain Meetings, I write about Mountain Activities 101. That’s not the official title of the article—it’s actually Mild to Wild—but it is a primer about the many amazing activities groups can enjoy in the mountains, from cave tours in Bend, Oregon, to a kayaking, hiking and hot springs excursion near Boulder City, Nevada.

With meetings returning to normal as the COVID-19 pandemic levels out, outdoor mountain pursuits are finding more time on meeting agendas. Taking events outdoors not only boosts attendees’ comfort level as they ease back into in-person meetings, time spent in nature is proven to improve brain health and stimulate creative thinking as well.

We’ll be looking at this topic in-depth in the Spring/Summer 2022 issue of Mountain Meetings. Consider this as an introduction to some of the possibilities.

The latest addition is the availability of Spanish-speaking guides.

Based in Boulder City, Nevada, Evolution Expeditions has been running kayak tours since 2006. Today, the outfitter offers fully customizable tours that can include hiking for groups of up to 60 guests, whether it’s a half-day break from meetings or a full day expedition.
