Meetings Mean Business Reacts to New Federal Guidance on Mass Gatherings

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sunday recommended that all gatherings of more than 50 people be cancelled or postponed for the next eight weeks, in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. The recommendation covers events like parades, concerts, festivals, conferences, sporting events, weddings and more.

Tetherow Lodge Named Top Resort in Bend

The 50-room Tetherow Lodge in Bend opened in April 2014 and already has been named the top resort in the world in its category by Booking.com’s “Booking’s Best” initiative. The boutique Bend property beat out similar properties in the United States, Thailand, India, Fiji, Greece and other top destinations. Booking.com utilized more than 40 million current customer reviews of more than 500,000 properties to identify winners in 25 categories, examining key categories such as staff, comfort, service, cleanliness, location and value for money.

Meet AC Launches New Websites

Meet AC, Atlantic City, N.J.’s tourism development agency, is shaking things up with three new websites this year and three in the pipeline set to launch within the next six months.

Recently, the organization established the convention website, which holds its convention calendar, a number of meeting planner tools and marketing materials. The convention center website merged with Meet AC. Soon, exhibitors will be able to make purchases directly through the website.

Taos Celebrated Major Milestones

As one of the country’s oldest art colonies in the United States, Taos is recognizing the 100th anniversary of the formation of Taos Society of Artists with celebrations on July 15, which falls between the 30th annual Taos Pueblo Pow Wow and the Spanish celebration of Fiestas de Taos, and throughout the year.

Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa Unveiled Renovations

A multimillion dollar renovation project has upgraded Monterey’s largest luxury conference hotel with a new lobby featur- ing a fireplace and seating areas and 550 updated guest rooms with patios, walk-in rain showers and more. Throughout 2012 and 2013, more than 40,000 square feet of ballrooms and meeting spaces underwent a $6 million renovation that plays off the decorative theme of land, edge and sea. The Monterey Ballroom theme is based around the agricultural land and coastline. The edge and sea come together in the Monterey Conference Center with waves, coastal bluffs and whales.

Winter Is in the Air

All planners know the importance of looking ahead—the earlier the details fall into place, the less stress one has to deal with as the event nears.

A smattering of event venues have started holding receptions decorated for holiday parties to give planners an idea of what a holiday event would look like there and to have soirees booked far in advance. We know Christmas in July sounds crazy, but it really is a planner’s dream. With all the heat and sunshine, winter feels light-years away.
