Melissa Woodley was recently named the director of events for Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort.

1. What are you looking forward to most in your new role?

I am very excited to be part of a team that demonstrates genuine and authentic care in all they do and works hard to ensure a successful and meaningful experience from start to finish for every meeting, wedding and event at our resort.

2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?

Through each position held on my Hyatt journey, I have learned and grown in ways I never could have imagined when I started almost 13 years ago, both personally and professionally.  I have learned it is important to be vulnerable with your colleagues, admit when you are wrong, celebrate every win and support one another through every challenge, not be afraid to speak your truth and be your genuine self.  Only by opening up and making genuine connections with one another can we truly be successful in our relationships, our jobs and life.

3. How did you get into the industry?

I grew up being heavily involved in volunteer work in my hometown community.  When it came time to choose a career path, it was extremely important to me to work in an industry that focuses on caring for, and helping, others. Hospitality, and Hyatt specifically, provides that opportunity every day, both with my work family and with our guests and customers.

4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?

I am hoping to provide unconditional support and care to each colleague, creating an environment that allows them the freedom and opportunity to be themselves, learn, grow and ultimately achieve their goals.  I truly believe that when we feel good about the work we do, and know without question someone always has our back, we take the best care of others, and that is ultimately the business we are in.  This care translates into the team crafting and producing successful, creative, personalized and meaningful meetings, weddings and events for our customers and guests.

5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?

The opportunity to connect with incredible people every day by developing relationships with my colleagues, our customers and our guests.
